Living The Dream

Living the dream is being able to live life on my terms. It means being satisfied and content with my current situation. It means living an ideal lifestyle with the freedom to do as I wish.

If you ask anyone else their definition of living the dream it will arouse a whole different emotional response and meaning from your own. Big house full of material stuff, expensive cars, overseas holidays twice a year. Nevertheless, I’m going to write my own version here for your perusal.

I live a retired lifestyle in a small home with my wife on the Sunshine Coast of Australia. The climate is beautiful one day, perfect the next. In fact, I believe it has the best climate in the country. The summers are warm to hot and the winters are mild, which allows me to play Lawn Bowls all year round. My other sport is Pickleball and is played in an indoor stadium. So without doing anything else, I have my cardio and physical exercise covered.

It’s all the small things that make up living the dream. Like sitting in the sun on a perfect summer’s day, without a cloud in the sky, and waiting your turn to run your bowl down the green and hopefully get closer to the jack than your opponent. Listening to the banter from the other bowlers during the game offers much entertainment, and participating in the comments keeps your brain active and helps with delaying cognitive decline. Lawn Bowls is one of the few sports that allows you to drink a beer during the game if you so desire. A game made in heaven.

Another great feeling is driving to the sports stadium in the mornings to play Pickleball while the poor buggers are heading to work in the opposite direction. Many are required to travel over an hour to Brisbane for their employment and forced to endure traffic jams and holdups. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve been there and done that. But now it’s my time in the sun. It’s my time to live the dream.
